Methodist Women in Britain (MWiB)
Nationally
Methodist Women in Britain (MWiB) is a self-financing volunteer-run charity within the Methodist Church in Britain. Its Mission Statement is “For women, for justice, for Christ”. MWiB works closely with the wider Methodist Church, particularly the Global Relationships Team, and is a full member of the World Federation of Methodist and Uniting Church Women.
There is a national MWiB website https://mwib.org.uk/
This website contains information about the Vision and Mission of MWiB, Creative Spirituality, World Church Focus, Social Action and Resourcing and Enabling women. An annual national Residential Conference is held at The Hayes Conference Centre, Swanwick in Derbyshire. Information about this can be found here Swanwick 2026
The MWiB Trustee Meeting is the main decision-making body of the charity and Rita Rowe is currently the Trustee representing East Anglia and Lincolnshire.
East Anglia District
The principal East Anglia District Officers are:
President – Susan Eldridge
Secretary – Jacky Woor
Finance – Olga Watkins
Susan can be contacted via her District EDI Officer email address () and contact details for Jacky and Olga are in the District Directory (if you have access to one).
Women of all denominations and none are invited to participate in MWiB activities. In the East Anglia District all our events are open to everyone and we often have a few men attend.
We hold two District Days a year – generally one in May and one in October. Please see the MWiB events page for more details of these events.
In March 2026 we held a Lent Bible Study morning at Thetford which was planned to be led by our District Chair, Revd Helen Hollands, but as circumstances changed it was led by Revd Jenny Pathmarajah largely using Helen's material. It was appreciated by those who attended and we may hold similar events in the future. We are also considering whether there is a desire for a Creativity Day to be held in 2027.
We produce two newsletters a year which are issued electronically just before our District Days, with some paper copies being available on the day. If you would like to be added to the electronic mailing list, please contact Susan.
We raise money (and awareness) for a charity, which changes every two or three years. The current charity we are supporting, in memory of Revd Heather Sorrell, is the Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Association (PSPA). Information about the charity can be found here PSP Association
